Soldier, courtier, author and antiquary, Sir Roger Twysden made his home at Royden Hall in the county of Kent, England. He collected Greek and Hebrew manuscripts as well as printed books. Upon his death, his collection passed to Sir John Sebright (1767-1846) of Beechwood Park, Hertfordshire, who sold the main portion at auction through Leigh and Sotheby on 6 April 1807.
